This resurgent form of play, which Horst Wein in the year 2000 has been delighting children and adults worldwide for over 20 years. In Germany, Funino has been 2010 increasing popularity and is being German Football Association (DFB) has been actively promoting this, especially since 2021. The DFB Federal Youth Day voted unanimously in favor of the mandatory implementation of the new forms of play in children's football. The regulation is to come into force nationwide at the start of the 2024/2025 season.
The game philosophy: more ball contacts, more success
The focus of Funino is the Fun at the game and the individual support of each individual player, because children want to be in action all the time. Due to the small playing fields and the small number of players per team, each player lots of space and time to control the ball, make decisions and score goals.
These are the Funino rules and recommendations
- G-Youth:
- 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3
- on a playing field of 16m x 20m or 25m x 20m
- F-Youth:
- 3 vs 3 or 5 vs 5 (optional with goalkeeper)
- on a playing field of 25m x 20m or 40m x 25m
- E-Youth:
- 5 vs 5 or 7 vs 7 (optional with goalkeeper)
- on a playing field of 40m x 25m on mini goals or small field goals
- Goals: Four mini goals with 6-meter goal-scoring zones
- Playing time: 3 minutes per game period
- No offside rule
- Fast game with lots of ball contacts
The advantages of Funino:
- Promotes playful thinking and action, as up to 280% more feints, tricks and dribbling are performed than in 8 vs 8.
- Improves technique and ball control, as players, for example, make up to 135% more passes.
- Creates a sense of achievement for all players, as up to 500% more goals are scored than in 8 vs 8
